Gaelic Song Classes

A new opportunity for young people and adults who are interested in learning Gaelic songs - or learning the Gaelic language - will commence later this month.

Proiseact nan Ealan and CNES' Community Education service have unveiled a six week pilot programme of evening classes in Lewis which will run over the winter months.

The weekly classes will be led by Gaelic singer Michelle Morrison, who will offer an introduction to the Gaelic language through learning new Gaelic songs or developing the songs you already possess.

Marisa MacDonald of PNE said: "The classes will suit Gaelic learners and fluent speakers alike. The focus will be on the songs and their melodies and the language learning aspect will be informal and fun. Participants will pick up the language through the words of the lyrics while also learning about the origins and history of the song. With the National Mod in Stornoway next year it is a great opportunity for singers and Gaelic-learners to brush up on their ceilidh skills"

Classes will take place at Taigh Dhonnchaidh in Habost, Ness between 7pm and 9pm beginning on Monday the 25th October at a cost of £35 for the duration of the course.
