Pròiseact nan Ealan (PnE) and Murray International Language Centre (MiLC) are pleased to announce the official launch of Seinn thu Fhèin – the brand new Gaelic karaoke DVD. The DVD will be launched during the Celtic Connections festival on Friday 23rd January from 5 – 6pm. The launch will take place at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) as part of the inaugural Gaelic Film and Music Festival, Film ‘s Craic (22nd – 24th January).
In line with the DVD itself, the launch is set to be a light hearted affair, aimed at families, schools, language learners and fluent speakers who like a bit of karaoke. Michelle Morrison, from Gaelic girl band Teine, sings on the DVD and will be performing a couple of the songs on Friday. Michelle commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the Seinn Thu Fhèin project, and it’s great that, now the DVD is available, even more people can take part in it. Seinn thu Fhèin is great fun for those who have Gaelic but it's also a fantastic learning tool for those who are new to the language. It should be the centre piece of any party!”
The Glasgow Gaelic School will also be represented through young Gaelic band, Na Rionnagan – who will be there to play a couple of their own songs, and to try out the karaoke. It is hoped that Seinn thu Fhèin will be embraced by educational institutions as a quirky learning tool that can appeal to young people and families. It can be a great way to get into the Gaelic culture and back up any language learning programme.
Audience Development Manager for the Gaelic Arts, Kirstie Anderson, said “The Celtic Connections programme is fantastic this year and we can imagine that everyone will be very busy running between concerts – there is no shortage of terrific Gaelic music and culture in Glasgow this week, not least the inaugural Film ‘s Craic festival. For this reason the launch will be short and sweet – so if you are in Glasgow please do come along, have a drink and a nibble, and give the karaoke a go – or if you don’t fancy getting up and singing quite yet I’m sure there is as much fun to be had watching everyone else!”
