Simon Mackenzie was an entertainer, a Gael, and a friend. His untimely death in 2008 left not only his family and friends, but the entire Gaelic arts community, in a state of confusion and disbelief. That someone as full of life as Simon is no longer with us, was and still is, hard to accept.

Simon had a successful career as an actor, broadcaster, singer, and playwright. As well as an outstanding performer, Simon was a passionate visionary for Gaelic theatre in education and spent years touring schools in Scotland and Ireland, developing Gaelic drama for young Gaels.

We want to continue Simon's support and encouragement for young people in Gaelic drama by setting up the Simon Mackenzie Trust, which will support the artistic ambitions of talented Gaelic speaking young people and further develop their skills. To get things started we are holding an evening of Gaelic entertainment – songs, stories and drama, in honour of Simon - to raise money and awareness for the Trust, and to celebrate his work.

This evening is a celebration of Simon's life and a tribute to his work.

It is for everyone who knew and loved Simon, for those who were touched by him and his work. Especially it is for everyone who is looking to the future to see the continuation of Simon's work with young people, and the impact he made on Gaelic theatre.

This is Simon's legacy.
