“Seinn thu fhein!” is the first Gaelic karokae DVD, produced by Proiseact nan Ealan (PnE) and Murray International Language Centre (MiLC).

It features a selection of our favourite songs, set to music and a gorgeous backdrop – all you have to do is sing along to the words that appear in front of you. It's great for those who already speak and sing in Gaelic, but also perfect for learners giving them a chance to grow more confident with the language in a fun way. Most of all it's just good fun!

The idea for the DVD came from Gordon Murray, Director MiLC UK. MiLC teaches English to people whilst they are living in the Hebrides. At the heart of MiLC is the unique concept that only so much learning can be done in the classroom and the practical usage of the language outside the class is paramount to the successful mastering of the language.

It is Gordon’s experience learning and teaching languages that brought him to the idea for “Seinn thu fhèin”. As a Gaelic learner himself, he has experience first hand just how hard it can be to learn a new language.

"When teaching in Malaysia, I was invited to stay with a family in Borneo over their harvest festival called Gawai. It's the most important festival where family and friends come together to celebrate the harvest. During the get together, the family would put on a karaoke DVD in their own language, Iban and everyone would have great fun in belting out some of these simple melodic tunes, even myself. It's at this point, I thought, why not Gaelic?"

Gordon then approached Proiseact nan Ealan with his idea, and in conjuntion with them, has secured funding from Ceol, CnaG, MG ALBA

The DVD features the vocal talents of Michelle Morrison (from Teine fame) and Mod Gold medallist Kennth Nicolson. You can choose to either sing along with the singer or go it alone, in true karaoke style. As well as appearing on the screen, you will find the words in English and Gaelic, in an accompanying booklet.
