Gaelic Leader

Gaelic leader/ leaders are required for two Gaelic Parent and child groups around Inverness; 'Cròileagan Chùil Lodair' and Clann Beaga, both meet at Smithton Free Church Hall, on Tues & Thurs mornings and Friday mornings. One leader could do both groups or would also consider separate leaders for different days/groups.

Assistant Editor - Scottish Language Dictionaries

The post involves editorial work in the compilation of dictionaries of the Scots language. Training in lexicography will be given.
Duties include:
• the compilation of derivative dictionaries based on the Scottish National Dictionary and the Dictionary of the Older Scottish Tongue • the development of the historical dictionaries, the Scottish National Dictionary and the Dictionary of the Older Scottish Tongue • supporting the Director as necessary in lexicographic, administrative and outreach activities • the maintenance of the system of Word Collection for use in updating extant dictionaries and for inclusion in new works

CASTING FOR FEATURE FILM
We are currently casting a major feature film, ‘Eagle of the Ninth’ Directed by Kevin MacDonald (director of Last King of Scotland), which will be shot in Scotland in October 09.
We are looking for Gaelic speaking people for the role of:
- Seal boy : aged between 10 and 14 yrs with a strong face.
- Court Poet : Male, aged approx 75 yrs.
These are supporting, heavily featured roles. Artists will be needed for a few weeks in October and will be fully paid.

Artist in Residence - Sabhal Mor Ostaig
The Sabhal Mor Ostaig Artist in Residence is an exciting opportunity for an artist to spend up to one year research and development time based at the Gaelic College on Skye. Situated in an area of outstanding beauty on the Sleat peninsula, this small specialist learning and research environment is the only Gaelic College in the world having strong international links with many foreign students and visitors.
The Residency is based in the new Fas building which hosts a range of facilities including state of the art television studio, multi-media facilities, research and national digital archive. The College also has an exemplary library and on-campus accommodation.
The Resident artist will have full access to a purpose built visual arts studio overlooking the sea with sink, internet access and natural light. This post is offered to visual artists whose work is informed by Gaelic language, culture or environment or wish to explore aspects of visual culture in relation to Gaelic. They will be offered the opportunity to engage, where relevant, with the Writer in Residence or the Musician in Residence.
The fee is £18,000 based on a 12 month residency but the duration is negotiable depending on the nature of the individual artist's proposal. The Royal Scottish Academy will support the opportunity by offering the artist a special residency exhibition.

Ceòl ’s Craic -
Freelance co-ordinator
Ceòl ’s Craic, the monthly Gaelic Arts Club is now in its sixth year of operation based at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) The Ceòl ’s Craic Steering Group would like to appoint a freelance worker to co-ordinate the Ceòl ’s Craic programme in 2009/10.
The fee offered is £5,000 and the co-ordinator will be expected to dedicate an agreed number of days each month to Ceòl ’s Craic activities between August 2009 and March 2010 in response to the demands of the programme. The programme takes place in the Centre for Contemporary Arts. The co-ordinator will have access to office facilities with the Arts Development team in Culture and Sport Glasgow at 20 Trongate.
The co-ordinator will report to Ceòl ’s Craic Steering Group and to the Gaelic Arts Officer in Culture and Sport Glasgow. Funding for the co-ordinator comes from The Scottish Arts council.
Scope and Responsibilities:
To ensure the delivery of the Ceòl ’s Craic programme, by performing the following tasks:
• Programming, marketing, workshop support, budget management, developing audiences, venue, technical and artist liaison including Ceòl ‘s craic @ Celtic Connections, a three day event at CCA in January. • To work with the Steering Group and the Gaelic Arts Officer to support the delivery of Ceòl ’s Craic in order to meet the requirements of funders. Support comes from CSG, SAC, BnG, CnL, Colmcille, MG ALBA. • Set up marketing systems and a diary for the delivery of effective and accurate marketing with advice and support from Culture and Sport Glasgow. • To assist in all internal and external communications including electronic communications and print. • To update and maintain the Ceòl ’s Craic database. • To update and maintain Ceòl ’s Craic myspace.com. • To manage front of house including stalls, displays, invitations, ticketing, and information distribution. • To assist with Press and Media (updated, reviews, cuttings, press releases.) • To promote positively at all times the work of Ceòl ’s Craic to key stakeholders, audiences and to the wider arts industry. • To represent Ceòl ’s Craic at external meetings as appropriate.
Person Specification: Skills and Characteristics
Essential • Evidence of experience in arts programming. • Clear and confident communication skills. • Excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills, including database and information management. • A proven ability to manage time effectively by prioritising workloads and meeting deadlines. • Enthusiastic and resourceful with a positive attitude. • A creative approach to the development of Gaelic arts. • A keen eye for accuracy. • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and under own initiative.
