Where did the idea for Sith Cafe come from?

Well, I am fond of coffee! Really? My partner and I wanted to create a place where everyone would be welcome. We wanted to bring music, fair-trade goods, Gaelic, coffee, craic, really good food and a community together in a peaceful, friendly place. And one day, on the M8 we decided to try it! It took a year before we were able to open, though.

When did you open and has it been quite busy since?

We opened at the beginning of August. It was quiet at first but we are getting busier each week since we opened. It took a while before the Partick folk were sure of us. The shop is quite different from the others on the street.

What makes it different from other cafes?

We are completely fair-trade and organic. While you are in you can play games or buy a gift. We enjoy talking to people who come in. Our coffee is particularly good. We have vegan, veggie etc options. We welcome groups who want to use the place – free of charge. You can buy one coffee and sit all day if you want. If you are creating things to sell we will put them in the shop…oh and Gaelic – we have Gaelic here.

How important is Gaelic to the cafe?

Gaelic is very important. We have a Gaelic name and we try to support any Gaelic initiative. I myself am in every night and therefore at night people can speak Gaelic any time. Liz works for us and she speaks Gaelic. We also have two workers who are learning Gaelic – therefore you can try out your Gaelic at any time in the cafè – come and help the workers to learn!
We have a Gaelic conversation night every week –on Wednesday night from six - and after a while we hope to teach Gaelic.

Why should we come down to Sith Cafe?

To try something different…to meet people, to buy Christmas gifts, to have a cup of coffee, to use WIFI, to speak Gaelic and to sample Jakey Cakey! (an extremely good chocolate cake)

It would be good to see you!
